About the speakers and organisers
Hi, my name is Ábel Kiss. I´m 23 years old and I live in Debrecen.
At the moment I am studying English at university and I also teach at a language school. I´m married to Hanna and have just had our first child, Soma Áron who brings a great deal of joy to us. From 2003-2006 I lived and served in Sydney, Australia at a Christian school where I was trained to preach and lead Bible studies mostly for teenagers. I am very excited about starting this special course and hoping that God will provide a wonderful time in fellowship where we can all grow not only in our language skills but in our faith as well. I believe that the Christian faith must be shared and we must come together to encourage each other and study, teach and apply God´s Word, the Bible. My name is Attila Karika and I´m the coordinator of the English Bible study group in the church. I live with my wife Magdalena and our four children Veronica, Christopher, Naomi and Hannah in Diósgyőr. I´m a regular Bible reader (in Hungarian language) but I was very surprised when I read words in the English Bible. I was again touched by well known and often used expressions. These had new messages for me as well. This sentence came to my mind from Jeremiah 15:16 "Your words are what sustain me. They bring me great joy and are my heart´s delight".
I have an intermediate language certificate and I encourage everyone who is going to take an exam or would like to practice the language to link his or her learning with discovering God´s words in another language. I wish that you may experience how blessed is to read God´s word in any way or form.
About the first night´s program
Topic: Understanding the overall message of the Bible
Ask yourself this question: What would you say to summarize in one sentence what the Bible is about? There are times in life when we get lost in the details. We just don´t see the "big picture" and lose our way. This can happen to us with the Bible as well. We hand out little cards with pessages on them, just one or two sentences from the Bible and expect others to understand where they come from, why they are there and most importantly what they mean. This is very difficult for someone who doesn´t understand the overall message of the Bible. So what is it? Well, I promise that you will find out on the first night. Looking forward to sharing this time with you and may God bless you! Ábel Kiss
